week 12, project task

 For the group project my role was to research the use sampling in the music industry I also researched the importance of copyright and how its important for artists to own the rights to there songs so no one can steal their songs and take credit for them. I researched different artists and came across Kanye west who used a music sample from daft punk and used it in his own song but gave credit to daft punk and got permission. in another case I researched lawsuits regarding copyright and came across mac millers 10 million dollar lawsuit as he never gave credit to the original owner of a sound that he used and there for didn't make profit off his song.  After conducting this project task I have realised that working in a group makes you have a better understanding for carrying out a specific tasks. Media representation

This week I watched three very interesting and informative videos about media representation.my first thoughts about media representation before  watching  the three videos was how  the media tends to  rep resent topics in ways that are unrealistic and tend to give the public a better impression tha n  it actually is.  The first video I watched was called” why representation matters” this video  informed  me about the factors of the  importance  of different cultu res being represented in the media and by doing thi s  to the best ability it is ideally portrayed by people who are in the same boat as what they are  essentially  trying to show the  media.   T hey also talked about the different body types that are shared across different media sources. media compression

For this week I learned about media compression which I have never really thought about before or have never came across this topic before. I have learned that media compression is uploading a video in the correct format and size depending on the website and size of video. The aim is to essentially make the file smaller whilst containing the quality of the video the main four methods of using compression are frame, colour, picture, sound. there are two types of compression that occur theses are lossy which is when some information that isn't relevant is lost. And then there's lossless which is the opposite its where every information in the sile must maintain in the file and cannot be removed.   For the reading task for week number 3 I had to read about study  skills. The   first  two passages  are from the website “theopenuniversity.com”  this website  had  some   interesting  useful tips and t ricks that I will  be  encountering over my time in college  and further into the future . In the first passage it was talked about the importance of understanding and knowing w hat and why you are reading the text and what you are going to gain from reading.
