Digital media

 For week 4 I watched 3 videos about digital media and digital literacy. In the first video it was discussed the importance of digital literacy in the world today. Digital media is an importance now days as its needed in most places of employment, and as the years go on technology is getting more advanced and is becoming more necessary to have these skills. Before watching these videos I wasn't very aware of the importance to have digital media skills but as the technology is developing more and more its becoming a necessity to have.

The tools I think that are needed for someone working in the digital media field is coding skills knowing how to not copyright as was explained in video 3 when people assumed they were using the photo without giving the person as share of the profit. Copyright is important as for people working in the media industry they need to be wary that using some sounds or artists songs could lead to their work being taken down.

I think that people like to create media pieces firstly to share some interests they have and to show other people who may have the same interests as them and then come across the piece of interest and enjoy it just as much as the person who created it and also to just show off their skills that they have been learning and share it with the public.

"The medium is the message" is a famous quote from Marshall McLuhan, I thinks that this represents the fact that the media can sometimes portray so many different interpretations just through one message. I also think that people can take away different pieces of information that stand out to them on a more personal level.

Digital media is different than traditional media as there's more of a broad range to it. Before watching these videos if someone would have mentioned media to me I would of  automatically thought of social media as that's what we use on the daily. Digital media can consist of computing how to code and use their skills to create games and websites. Digital media can also be used in the form of video editing where I think people can express their humour into these and put a sense of their personality into the videos they create.

    Hi Emma! I really enjoyed how you spoke about the quote by Marshall McLuhan and expressed how media can be portrayed in different ways through one message. When you spoke about how media can be interpreted in different ways it really showed your understanding of the topic and quote given. The layout of your blog is really well labelled and designed. You're use of paraphrasing is very well done. The way you spoke about your own personal opinion and experiences made my own understanding of the topics better. I would love to know how digital media literacy is used and what it is used for? From your blog I learned that digital media and digital literacy is extremely important in this era. It would really be great if you added more description or go into further detail on your paragraphs!

    Hi Emma, I liked how easily explain how the importance of copyright and how it's used in the world and media today, when people may use other peoples media they may not understand how or the importance of sharing someone else's work and not crediting the person and taking the profit from it. I really liked how you have your blog posted as it looks very nice and tidy with the paragraphs. I've learned that digital media isn't just based on media itself and has a more broad range as you stated yourself, I've also learned that you have to use certain tools when working with digital media so that you don't get miscredited or copyright work yourself. I have 2 questions about what you've written and they are;

    1. is there any other way people can "create media pieces" not to be shown off or them just posting it because they like what they did but in a more business aspect of it.

    2. how do you think a workplace would be without the importance of digital media and how they would affect the workplace.

    I liked the introduction but what if you have used a more formal approach instead of starting off with what we've done for week 4 I feel like it could've been a better start to the blog

    Hi Emma I actually enjoyed reading this blog by you as its very short and easy to read. My favourite part would have to be the importance of the media tools you mentioned and copyright. I liked how you had explained how important copyright is in the digital world, it’s a term that can be taken very serious that can lead to a damaging career in the digital artist world and the tools that are needed in the field is good too.

    More information on the skills needed for digital media would be helpful like more than just coding maybe expand more on that.

    Add sub headings to important paragraphs like digital media skills and the quote by Marshall McLuhan.

    I have learned that digital media is vital in today’s world as there are a lot of job opportunities surrounding it.

    You should add some bold text for subheadings to the paragraphs as it would make it easy to stand out more.

week 12, project task

 For the group project my role was to research the use sampling in the music industry I also researched the importance of copyright and how its important for artists to own the rights to there songs so no one can steal their songs and take credit for them. I researched different artists and came across Kanye west who used a music sample from daft punk and used it in his own song but gave credit to daft punk and got permission. in another case I researched lawsuits regarding copyright and came across mac millers 10 million dollar lawsuit as he never gave credit to the original owner of a sound that he used and there for didn't make profit off his song.  After conducting this project task I have realised that working in a group makes you have a better understanding for carrying out a specific tasks.
