media compression

For this week I learned about media compression which I have never really thought about before or have never came across this topic before. I have learned that media compression is uploading a video in the correct format and size depending on the website and size of video. The aim is to essentially make the file smaller whilst containing the quality of the video the main four methods of using compression are frame, colour, picture, sound. there are two types of compression that occur theses are lossy which is when some information that isn't relevant is lost. And then there's lossless which is the opposite its where every information in the sile must maintain in the file and cannot be removed. This technique is also applies to audio compression with lossy and lossless as in the video "what you lose when you compress music to mp "in this video it demonstrates the lossy method in the case where as some of the audio has been cut but it is unnoticeable to the public as we...

active reading

For the reading task for week number 3 I had to read about study  skills. The   first  two passages  are from the website “theopenuniversity.com”  this website  had  some   interesting  useful tips and t ricks that I will  be  encountering over my time in college  and further into the future . In the first passage it was talked about the importance of understanding and knowing w hat and why you are reading the text and what you are going to gain from reading. This is do ne  by using a series of techniques  the first technique is skimming over texts before diving into reading it  all. I  myself always do this as I find it helps me gain better knowledge of what  I'm about to get into .  this  is done  by reading any key information first that stand out to you so any headings in bold or any key words that are highlighted.  It is also encouraged to take notes whilst reading and th...

Media ethics

Image
After watching four interesting videos on the broad scale of media ethics I was drawn to the parts of the first video that titled "Cambridge analytics scandal explained" in this video they were talking about how the company was basically founded from using hundreds of thousands of peoples data that they took from Facebook. This scandal is very intriguing as I think that this one of the companies that have gotten caught from doing this but there is so many more companies out there trying to get data and also trying to just about stay on the legal side and try and cut as many corners as they can to benefit their company and try get as many consumers to stay with their company one example of this was given in the video "how dark patterns trick you online" this example was the fact when you are subscribed to some websites and companies they will make it as difficult as possible in order for the consumers to cancel their subscription. They do by thinking that consumers ...

Digital media

For week 4 I watched 3 videos about digital media and digital literacy. In the first video it was discussed the importance of digital literacy in the world today. Digital media is an importance now days as its needed in most places of employment, and as the years go on technology is getting more advanced and is becoming more necessary to have these skills. Before watching these videos I wasn't very aware of the importance to have digital media skills but as the technology is developing more and more its becoming a necessity to have. The tools I think that are needed for someone working in the digital media field is coding skills knowing how to not copyright as was explained in video 3 when people assumed they were using the photo without giving the person as share of the profit. Copyright is important as for people working in the media industry they need to be wary that using some sounds or artists songs could lead to their work being taken down. I think that people like to create...

Study Skills

For this weeks task, week number 3 I have reviewed 3 videos about different study skills and also about media literacy. The first video that's called "three best science -based study tips " this video was broken down into 3 parts to study more effectively these methods were recommended by Augustine to study medicine. Firstly they talked about the quizzing style also known as active recall Quizzing can also be used as a method of studying by using flash cards, practise questions and notes this method forces the brain to go through motions  The second method that was talked about in the video was spacing also known by spaced repetition this is a method that is used overtime to retain information. If knowledge isn't revised there's such thing known as the 'forgetting curve' To prevent this from happening he mentioned the use of revision timetables. The final method talked about in this particular video was the method of mixing. This method is also known as in...

I am also looking forward to my visual creativity as I feel in this class I might be able to express some of my art skills in sketching and hopefully get to learn new skills that I can use in sketching also. I chose this course as I felt drawn to it whilst reading the potential career paths that I could potentially achieve within doing the course.in the future I hope to get in...
